Angel Medina, Jr. is Group President and Area Executive of Regions Bank’s Southeast Florida market, which include Miami-Dade, Broward and Palm Beach. In this capacity he provides strategic direction for the sale and delivery of financial products and services to all Regions customers in the South Florida region. Regions is one of the top commercial banking financial institutions in Southeast Florida. It focuses on commercial and consumer banking relationships and is considered one of the leading financial institutions in commercial real estate construction lending and business banking. Complementing core-banking products, Regions provides investment services, trust and wealth management consulting services, as well as insurance products, either directly or through its Morgan Keegan affiliate. In May 2006, Regions Financial Corporation and AmSouth Bankcorporation announced their decision to merge, forming one of the top 10 bank holding companies in the United States. The new company will have almost $140 billion in assets, hold nearly $100 billion in deposits and operate 2,000 branches in 16 states across the South, Midwest and Texas. This newly merged company places Regions as the fourth largest commercial bank in Florida. Regions also merged with Memphis-based Union Planters Corporation in July 2004. Medina joined Regions (formerly Union Planters) in April 2000 as Executive Vice President of Strategic Planning, where he focused on the development of Relationship Banking and the execution of a streamlined credit approval process. In August 2000 he was appointed President of the Miami-Dade Bank, where he oversaw Corporate, Commercial Real Estate and Wealth Management. In June 2001, his responsibilities expanded to include Business Banking and Retail. In June 2006, Medina was promoted to Area Executive for the Southeast Florida market which includes Broward and Palm Beach. Medina’s career in the financial services industry began in 1973. Throughout his over 30-year career, he has served in numerous leadership positions in Commercial Real Estate, Corporate Banking, Business Banking, Retail and Credit Policy. He also spent more than 13 years in leadership positions with Barnett Bank of South Florida until 1996, when he joined Adrian Homes as its chief financial officer. He was with Adrian until he joined Union Planters in 2000. Medina is a strong believer in community service, and has dedicated himself to focusing on issues to improve the quality of life in Miami-Dade, including supporting children and families. Medina currently serves on the Executive Committee and is Treasurer for Miami Dade’s Public Health Trust. The Public Health Trust includes Jackson Memorial Hospital and Jackson Health Systems. In addition, he is currently the Co-Chair for Miami Dade’s United Way campaign. He has also chaired the Mercy Hospital Gala, the March of Dimes WalkAmerica and the National Conference for Community and Justice. Medina has always maintained a strong commitment to assisting cultural and business associations and organizations. He is currently the Chairman of the Beacon Council, Miami-Dade County’s economic development agency. He also serves as Chairman of Florida International University’s Deans Council and served as the Chairman of the Capital Campaign for the College’s building fund. He has also served on such boards as the Miami City Ballet and the Government Relations Board of the Florida Bankers Association. Medina served a two-year term as President as the Latin Builders Association, a 700-member local business group of prominent executives that focus on the construction and real estate industry and take an active role in government reform and accountability. Medina has served on the LBA board since 1989. Throughout his career, Medina has received numerous honors and recognitions including: the Distinguished Alumni award from his alma mater, Florida International University, the Humanitarian of the Year award from the March of Dimes, the Valor Award from the American Diabetes Association and the Ultimate CEO award from the South Florida Business Journal. For many years he has been recognized as one of South Florida’s most influential leaders by South Florida CEO magazine. Other awards and recognitions include the Banker of the Year and the Director of the Year awards given by the Latin Builders Association and he was inducted into the Miami-Dade Community College’s Hall of Fame. |
